On tour, District 5050 Governor Lindagene Coyle brings her inimitable style and a nautical pop-up banner to each of the 57 clubs in her District. What sets her apart from past District Governors is that her presentation clearly tells Rotarians what her, and the District’s, expectations are for each member and each Club.

“Tell people that you are making a difference” she said, “every club is doing so much, so the best way to interest people in joining Rotary is to simply tell them what you are doing”.

DG Coyle then outlined the 4 Priorities for her year:

First, every Club should achieve a Presidential Citation. It is not easy to do so, but that gives it value. It is also important to count the number of volunteer hours a club puts in, a statistic that RI collects annually and has used effectively with major sponsors and benefactors, but is equally important at the club-community level to generate awareness.

Second, every Rotarian should visit the Council on Legislation section on My Rotary because it represents the momentous changes Rotary is going through today to re-energize the organization.

Third, the District 5050 Vision is:
  • District 5050 Rotary clubs are recognized by people as the service club of choice in their community
  • The District’s role is to enhance success and growth of clubs through communications, training and leadership
  • Clubs work collaboratively on local and international projects that address all Rotary Avenues of Service
Fourth, the District’s priorities this year are:
  1. Membership
  2. Rotary Foundation – EREY!
  3. Leadership and Training
  4. Youth Programs
  5. Public Image and Communication
Finally, DG Coyle (but Lindagene to all of us!) invited us all to consider registering for the District Conference, May 8-12, 2018 aboard the MS Eurodam sailing out of Seattle, with stops in Victoria and Vancouver, and then ending in Seattle. Rooms are going fast and the conference rate is good only until January 7th, 2018 or is sold out. See the District 5050 web site for registration details.
