The SASSY Awards honoured our local youth aged 16 to 21 who make a difference in our community by demonstrating the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self. The City of Surrey, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Surrey School District and Peninsula Community Foundation are supporting this inspiring awards program and event along with several corporate sponsors including the Peace Arch News.

Seven Awards were presented in six categories of: Youth Leadership, Community Service, Humanitarian, Against-the-Odds, Athletic/Sportsmanship, Performing and Visual Arts. Recipients shown in photo above left to right were Amelia Misak for Performing & Visual Arts, Geena Dhaliwal for Against-the-Odds, Felicia Rafael for Community Service and Jake Hanna for Athletic/Sportsmanship. Missing were recipients Ann Choi, Henry Szwaba and June Liu.

Recipients received a $1000 bursary, as well as $500 to donate to a registered charity of their choice and a stylized SASSY Award trophy.

The Show featured international award winning hip hop crew FRESHH, the YouthFest 'Battle of the Bands' winner The ViDOS and other young local performers whose performances were outstanding. Following the show a VIP reception was held with catering from The Boathouse.

Thanks to our youth and all the volunteers who helped make this a memorable event.
