Friends of SASSY

The SASSY Awards stand for ‘Service Above Self Surrey Youth’ Awards and it is Rotary’s way to celebrate and honour the fantastic youth in our community.  We award seven $1,000.00 bursaries along with seven $500.00 donations the recpients present to registered Canadian charities of their choice at the SASSY Awards Show which takes place this year on the evening of Friday May 12th at the Surrey Arts Centre.

We had 63 nominees this year and they will be celebrated on May 12th at the Surrey Arts Centre on 88th Avenue in Surrey.

The Awards evening also features exceptional local youth performers, Panorama Ridge Jazz Ensemble, performers from Circus Lab, singer, songwriter and pianist extraordinaire Ben Dunnill, and singing sensation Maya Rae.

There are two ways that you can be involved with our 2017 SASSY Awards.  You could purchase tickets and attend the event which we would really appreciate, you could become a ‘Friend of SASSY’ supporter by donating $50.00 to $2,000.00, or you could do both.

All donations are tax deductible. We really require the help from the community to make this work and whatever you can do is greatly appreciated. It is very important to us to have people in the seats so we do ask that if you purchase tickets you make sure they are used.

Our website
have more information and inspiring video clips from previous events, something that you really must watch.  They really show what we are about.

Rotary has other youth programs that this event helps with. We send youth to leadership training camps, adventures in citizenship, exchange opportunities and sponsor the Panorama Interact Club which is a Rotary club for young people that encourages the concept of Service above Self. We also award scholarships to students at Elgin Park Secondary and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

In 2015 my Rotary club took 3 incredible local youth to Mexico to help deliver over 300 wheelchairs to people who were handicapped but had no way to get a wheelchair. These three young people came back with one thing in common, this experience changed their lives. This is an example of the type of thing that Rotary does for our local youth.

Let’s celebrate the fantastic youth in our community.  If you feel you can help please contact me or if you wish please consider making a donation to Friends of SASSY online: Donate Now

Thank You very much!

Sincerely
