July 28 Rotary
Much ado about Save On Cards
Mary started the meeting at 7:14
Introduction of guests and welcome back of wayward travellers
Mary announced it is time to reconsider what committees people would like to be involved in so next weeks meeting we will focus a bit more about on that.
Why Rotary moment done by Rod Thompson – Apparently it is good for his ego lol – there are opportunities involved in Rotary that one might never have occasion to experience. Really what it comes down to though is the people. The person that introduced you to Rotary, the people involved in Rotary and the experiences you will share with those people.
Sgt Larry made us sing happy birthday to Gordon and then we went straight into the draw. Rod Drew and Janet won the 50/50 Queen of hearts went to Barry who drew something (missed it) and lost out on $268.
Then we went into a wine auction - $16 sold to someone. Happy dollars –
Ozzie and John drew for the $500 gift card which was won by Charlotte
Attendance recognition continues: some amazing attendance recognitions
Rod introduced our guest speaker: Abby Antel and her participation in the International Antarctic Expedition 2016 for two weeks resulting in a dream come true and memories that would truly last a lifetime. She was one of 140 adventures chosen from thousands to accompany Robert Swan – (explorer) and was the only Canadian on the expedition. Abby shared some rare, beautiful pictures of her journey with spectacular icebergs, glaciers and wildlife. Some of her fondest memories were of the people, the interesting conversations and the spectacular barren scenery that when you look below the surface of the ice and snow territory you see the life, the sacredness and the fragileness of this last unexplored frontier. There were icebergs the size of city blocks and skyscrapers and pictures couldn’t do justice to the enormity of the size and uniqueness of these formations. Thanks for sharing your inspiring journey with us and this glimpse into the relatively unexplored Antartica.
