Each year, Semiahmoo Rotary honours both club members and non-Rotarian individuals in the community for their voluntary contributions with Paul Harris Fellows. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary in 1905 in Chicago USA.  A Paul Harris Fellow is considered the highest recognition that a club honours to an individual.

This year the club recognised two community leaders:

Kevin DeBoice, principal at Panorama Ridge Secondary  in North Surrey, and formerly at Elgin Park Secondary in South Surrey was presented with his PHF for the extensive work that he has done over the years with youth. He is a man that rarely, if ever, says no to a challenge where young people are concerned, and has dedicated his life to working with them. He is the Director for Accommodation for the B.C. Summer Games in Surrey this summer, has worked with the Semiahmoo Rotary’s annual Golf Tournament, and with the SASSY (Service Above Self Surrey Youth) Awards, an event which happens in October each year. Dragana Sanderson, is a name that many in our community recognise for her long time involvement with the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation. She has been on the board since 2004, has chaired the Annual Gala and served a two year term from 2008-10 as president. She continues to serve on several committees for the foundation. Additionally, Dragana was honored with the RBC Leo award for her outstanding volunteer leadership and service. She has been a long-time supporter of RBC’s annual BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Dragana has also been president of the 400+ member South Surrey Garden Club and one of the original guides at Darts Hill Garden Park. This June, Semiahmoo Rotary also recognised their past president Lori Chalmers and members Rick Floer, Mary Brunet and Doug Waymark with PHF for their dedication and hard work on various committees over the years.

Congratulations to all Paul Harris Fellow recipients.
